Rising Fuel Prices Could Boost Electric Motorcycle Adoption in the Philippines

Rising fuel costs, heavy traffic, and growing demand for reliable after-sales support are creating conditions that could accelerate electric motorcycle adoption in the Philippines, according to VinFast E-Motorcycle Philippines.

The company, which entered the local market in July 2026, sees electric motorcycles as a practical alternative for Filipino commuters seeking lower operating costs and more convenient daily transportation.

Three Factors Driving Electric Motorcycle Adoption

1. Rising fuel prices. High gasoline prices are increasing the cost of daily motorcycle use. Electric motorcycles offer an alternative with lower energy costs, potentially helping riders reduce their transportation expenses over time.

2. Heavy traffic and daily commuting. Motorcycles remain essential for navigating congested roads, particularly in Metro Manila. Electric models offer the added benefits of lower operating costs and zero tailpipe emissions, making them an option for urban commuters.

3. Reliable ownership and after-sales support. Access to servicing, warranties, and charging or battery-swapping infrastructure remains important for buyers considering electric motorcycles. A reliable support network can help address concerns about maintenance and everyday usability.

VinFast Expands Its Electric Motorcycle Offering

To address these concerns, VinFast offers a battery subscription program for ₱439 per month, which includes access to a battery-swapping network operated by V-Green. Riders can also purchase the battery outright and charge it at home using a standard household outlet.

The company estimates that riders could save ₱40,000 to ₱70,000 over five years compared with a similarly positioned gasoline motorcycle, depending on usage and fuel prices. Its Philippine lineup includes the Evo at ₱62,900 with battery subscription, Feliz II at ₱64,900, and Viper at ₱73,900. The models come with a stated 4+2-year or 60,000+12,000-kilometer warranty coverage, subject to applicable terms, and are supported by 28 dealerships nationwide.

VinFast points to Vietnam as an example of the potential for electric two-wheelers, where electric models have gained a growing share of motorcycle sales. The company aims to support similar adoption in the Philippines through its vehicle lineup, battery-swapping infrastructure, and after-sales services.
