JAECOO EJ6

The JAECOO EJ6 marks a significant milestone in the Philippine automotive landscape, introducing a fully electric SUV that seamlessly blends urban sophistication with off-road prowess. As part of the OMODA | JAECOO group's commitment to new energy vehicles, the EJ6 arrives in two variants: the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Premium and the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Premium, catering to diverse driving preferences.

JAECOO EJ6

When I first heard about the JAECOO EJ6, the Philippines’ newest all-electric SUV, I was curious, especially since electric vehicles (EVs) are now the fastest growing segment in the local market. After spending a few days behind the wheel, here’s what I experienced with this promising new player from the OMODA | JAECOO group.

Design and Build

When I first got behind the wheel of the JAECOO EJ6, I immediately noticed that the one I was driving was a dressed-up version, the kind you’d expect to see on display at a major car show like MIAS. This special look gave the EJ6 a rugged, almost armored SUV vibe, making it a serious head-turner whether parked or rolling down the road. It definitely stands out in a crowd, catching curious glances wherever it goes.

JAECOO EJ6

At first glance, the EJ6 captivates with its boxy yet modern silhouette, setting it apart in the electric SUV segment. The vehicle's dimensions are 4,342 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,741 mm in height and provide a commanding road presence. The floating roof design and advanced LED optics enhance its futuristic appeal. Built on an all-aluminum body, the EJ6 not only reduces overall weight but also contributes to improved performance and efficiency.

The entertainment system’s large display adds a modern and streamlined feel to the cabin, eliminating clutter from physical buttons. It offers a sleek, minimalist interface that enhances the overall look while providing easy access to a wide range of features through the touchscreen.

The EJ6 offers a roomy and semi-upscale cabin experience, although some of the interior materials feel delicate and may show wear if not handled with care. Both the driver and front passenger enjoy wide, comfortable seating with useful storage options within easy reach. plus a wireless charging pad located between the seats. There are USB and Type-C ports available as well, making it easy to connect your device to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Passengers in the back will appreciate the ample legroom, ideal for the average Filipino family, and thoughtful extras like rear air vents, charging ports, and a fold-down center armrest. While cargo capacity isn’t officially stated, the vehicle’s boxy layout allows for a practical and easy-to-load rear area, a welcome change from sleeker crossovers that often compromise trunk space for style.

The cabin has a few odd design choices that take away from the overall comfort. For example, the glove compartment can only be accessed through the infotainment system, it should have been a simple button or latch. The vanity mirror’s lighted cover flips up from the bottom, so you need to close it before folding the sun visor, or it’ll get jammed. Instead of traditional door handles, there are buttons to open the doors, which feels unnecessary since they don’t open automatically. The window switches are awkwardly placed and confusing to use, and the rearview mirror doesn’t include an anti-glare feature, something you'd expect as a standard on a modern vehicle like this.

Keyless Entry and Summer-Ready Comfort

One of the underrated perks of driving an EV like the JAECOO EJ6 is just how seamless the experience can be, especially when it comes to keyless entry and automatic climate control.

With the key fob in your pocket or bag, the EJ6 senses your approach and gets things going without you needing to press a button. It unlocks the doors, starts the engine, and turns on the A/C automatically. That might sound like a small thing, but during the hot summer season in the Philippines, it makes a big difference.

JAECOO EJ6

This quickly became one of my favorite features during my time with the EJ6. Whether I was coming back from a grocery run or finishing errands in the midday heat, the cabin was already cooling down by the time I reached the door. No more stepping into a stifling car and waiting for the A/C to kick in.

It’s a simple, smart touch, one that shows how EVs like the EJ6 aren’t just about going electric. They're also about making everyday driving more comfortable and convenient, especially in a climate like ours.

Comfort and Driving Experience

Inside, the EJ6 offers a spacious five-seater cabin adorned with premium materials and a minimalist dashboard layout. The "Multi-Dimensional Rubik's Cube" cockpit design ensures that controls are within easy reach, enhancing driver ergonomics. Passengers benefit from ample legroom and headspace, making long journeys comfortable. The inclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensures seamless connectivity, while features like intelligent climate control and a panoramic sunroof elevate the overall driving experience.

JAECOO EJ6

The EJ6 delivers a smooth and relaxing driving experience, but the infotainment system requires a bit of a learning curve. The interface feels cluttered, and essential features aren’t always located where you'd expect. A good example is the massage seat feature—it’s oddly tucked away within the climate control settings instead of being listed under the Seats menu. I only discovered it after several days of casually exploring the menus while parked in the garage.

Performance

Under the hood, the AWD version of the EJ6 features two electric motors working together, 70 kW powering the front wheels and a stronger 135 kW unit driving the rear, combining for a total output of 205 kW (274 hp) and 385 Nm of torque. This powertrain delivers impressive acceleration, pushing the SUV from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds. The top speed is capped at 150 km/h, which feels more than enough for everyday driving and highway cruising.

Behind the wheel, the ride feels remarkably smooth and composed. The suspension, built with cast aluminum H-arm components, handles bumps and rough patches on the road with ease, creating a comfortable environment inside the cabin. Pressing the accelerator yields an immediate and eager response, giving the car a lively burst of speed that’s thrilling yet controlled. It’s the kind of responsiveness that makes merging onto highways or overtaking other vehicles effortless and confidence-inspiring.

The steering is very light and power-assisted, which makes maneuvering in tight spaces or city traffic easy, but it does lack the tactile feedback that driving enthusiasts often crave. During spirited drives, this absence of feel can make the connection between driver and road seem a bit disconnected.

JAECOO EJ6

On the downside, the driving range is somewhat limited, with a maximum of around 421 kilometers on a full charge. For daily commuting, this is generally sufficient, but longer trips—especially out of town or to provincial areas—require some planning. Mapping out charging stations along your route becomes essential to avoid any range anxiety. This means making a mental note or using apps to locate charging points before setting off, which can interrupt the spontaneity of longer journeys. Overall, while the EJ6’s performance and comfort impress, its range is a factor to consider depending on your travel needs.
Safety

JAECOO EJ6

Safety is paramount in the EJ6, which comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, among others. These systems work in tandem to provide a secure driving environment, whether navigating city streets or going off-road.

JAECOO EJ6

The EJ6 offers a range of intelligent drive modes designed to match different driving needs. You get the usual Eco, Standard, and Sport settings for daily driving, with each one adjusting performance and efficiency accordingly—Eco for conserving battery, Standard for balanced driving, and Sport for quicker acceleration.

What sets the EJ6 apart, though, is its off-road versatility. It features specialized modes like Muddy, Slippery, Beach, and more, which fine-tune traction and stability for specific terrains. Whether you're cruising through the city or exploring off the beaten path, the EJ6 adapts with confidence and ease.

One unusual of the EJ6 is how quickly it decelerates when you lift your foot off the accelerator. The car slows down noticeably, almost as if you're gently applying the brakes. Interestingly, the brake lights don’t activate during this natural slowdown. While this may take a little getting used to, it’s easy enough to tap the brake pedal to signal your deceleration. In city driving, where stop-and-go traffic is common, this feature actually adds to the overall driving ease. On highways, it just means being a bit more mindful to give clear signals to drivers behind you. Once you’re familiar with it, this trait can actually enhance your control over the vehicle—especially in congested traffic situations.

Power, Battery, and Charging

The JAECOO EJ6 runs on a 69.77 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL, delivering up to 421 kilometers of range on a full charge — more than enough for daily commutes and short out-of-town trips.

JAECOO EJ6

Charging is flexible and convenient. With a standard 6.6 kW AC charger, you can juice up from 30% to 80% in around 12.5 hours — ideal for overnight charging at home. But if you're in a hurry, the EJ6 supports 80 kW DC fast charging, cutting that same charge window down to just 30 minutes.

Whether you're topping up at home, at the mall, or at a highway rest stop, the EJ6 makes recharging simple and stress-free.
Pros and Cons

Verdict

The JAECOO EJ6 impressed me as a well-rounded all-electric SUV tailored for Filipino drivers who want style, performance, and tech in one package. It offers plenty of space, modern connectivity, and safety features, wrapped in a distinctive design that doesn’t shy away from attention. While there are areas for refinement, particularly in steering dynamics, the EJ6's overall package offers excellent value for those ready to embrace electric mobility.

For anyone ready to step into electric driving without sacrificing SUV practicality, the JAECOO EJ6 is definitely worth a test drive. It’s a fresh, promising contender helping push Philippine roads toward a cleaner, more exciting future.
